Gordon Murray dice que fue «estúpido» introducir la transmisión automática en el T. 33

Hoy temprano, Gordon Murray Automotive reveló el T. 33 Spider, ocultando en el comunicado de prensa el hecho de que el automóvil solo se ofrecerá con una transmisión manual de seis velocidades. En una entrevista reciente, explicó que pensó que era «estúpido» ofrecer cualquier otro tipo de transmisión en primer lugar.

Murray dice que inicialmente tomó la decisión de ofrecer una transmisión de seis velocidades en el cupé T.33 porque sabía que la plataforma en la que se basaba ese vehículo ascendería a un total de 300 vehículos. Concluyó, entonces, que había una necesidad de ganar un atractivo más amplio.

Al final, dice, solo «tres o cuatro» personas ordenaron el cupé T. 33 con la palanca de cambios. Sin embargo, la opción fue una característica de accesibilidad útil que un par de personas la solicitaron, por necesidad, debido a problemas con el vástago del embrague, explicó Murray.

Desafortunadamente para estos compradores, la misma lógica que significa que los fabricantes de automóviles que producen más vehículos no pueden permitirse el lujo de ofrecer una transmisión manual significa que GMA no puede permitirse el lujo de ofrecer una palanca de cambios.

«Hubiera terminado siendo la opción más cara del mundo», explicó Murray. La decisión se tomó a pesar de que la empresa comenzó a desarrollar la transmisión. El equipo tenía un Lotus Evora que tenía una caja de cambios en funcionamiento, pero finalmente decidió eliminar la opción.

In the end, he says that just “three or four” people ordered the T.33 coupe with the paddle-shift transmission. However, the option was a useful accessibility feature, since two of the people ordered it, did so out of necessity, because of problems with their clutch leg, Murray explained."
